Goldbelt Tram is Re-opening on May 15
The Goldbelt Tram, Southeast Alaska’s only aerial tramway, today announced plans to open for the 2021 summer season on May 15, catering to local visitors and independent travelers alike. The popular Juneau attraction – second in attendance only to the Mendenhall Glacier – will be operating on a limited schedule after a yearlong closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The Goldbelt Tram looks forward to welcoming visitors once again this upcoming season,” said McHugh Pierre, President & CEO of parent company Goldbelt, Incorporated. “Despite the limited number of cruise ships visiting Juneau this summer, the Tram team is excited get things moving. We will welcome our community – the locals that have returned to the mountain year after year – with the same enthusiasm as ever, and count on greeting plenty of independent travelers in this unique season for Alaska tourism.”
Guests visiting the Tram in the coming months will notice some changes to the lower terminal and mountain house, as well as the enclosure that houses rescued bald eagle Lady Baltimore. Tram management took advantage of the 2020 closure to fast-track planned renovations. The refreshed look features formline art by Tlingit Artist Nick Vonda.
“Current community health regulations mandated by local ordinance will remain in place to keep both Tram employees and our guests safe and healthy,” said Jim Duncan, Goldbelt Tram General Manager. "This summer marks the Tram’s 25th year in operation, and we have some fun exciting events and activities in the works for the later summer, so stay tuned!”
The Goldbelt Tram will be operating on a limited schedule of Friday through Sunday, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Other, as-yet unscheduled days to be determined on a “good weather” basis and will be announced on the Tram’s social media pages. 2020 season pass holders will maintain their season pass privileges for the 2021 season as well as the 2022 season.
