FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When are the first payments being released for eligible applicants?
Goldbelt will release the initial payments of up to $2,600 to approved applicants on Friday, August 27. Shareholders may expect checks and direct deposits to arrive within 3-5 business days, depending on their bank's receiving process. Following the first round of reimbursements, Goldbelt will process applications on a weekly basis.
How will I know if I’m approved?
There are three eligibility requirements:
1) Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
2) Applicants must be Goldbelt shareholders as of August 10.
3) Applicants must certify financial loss, necessary expenses incurred, and/or emergency economic need due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Applicants certify their citizenship and financial loss directly on the application. The Goldbelt CARES Team verifies your shareholder status.
How much will I receive?
Approved applicants will be reimbursed for the amount that they are able to certify as related COVID-19 expense(s). For example, if you list “$1,400” in the “Amount of Reimbursement/Assistance Required:” field, you will receive $1,400. The maximum a shareholder may receive is $2,600 per person.
I'm on social security. Will these Federal CARES Act funds impact my social security benefits?
The Federal CARES Act funds are not taxable income. These funds should not impact social security.
What If I received CARES Act Funding from another source?
You can still apply for Goldbelt’s Federal Tribal Organization CARES Act relief program if your need exceeded the amount of funding that you received from other sources. For example, if you received reimbursement for remote educational costs through Tlingit and Haida, but you also had other expenses, you can apply for these funds through the paper or online application.
I made a mistake on my application. How can I fix it?
Email GBCARES@goldbelt.com. Please do not submit another application as it adds to the processing time. Simply, email GBCARES@goldbelt.com with your updated information.
Is there enough money for everyone?
Yes! There's enough money for every shareholder to apply. Make sure to submit your application prior to the September 30 deadline.
Do I need to provide receipts or proof of Covid-19 related expenses with this application?
No, it is not necessary to provide receipts with the application. However, you will need to complete all certifications to be eligible for the needs-based funding. Be sure to check all five boxes on the form.
How do I know if my application went through?
After submitting your online application, you should see a confirmation page on your screen. This serves as your primary verification (example picture below). Additionally, you should have an email titled, "Submission Confirmation for Federal CARES Act Funding for Goldbelt Shareholders." This email confirmation is sent to the email that you input on your application and not necessarily the email you have on file with MyGoldbelt. Be sure to check your junk and spam folders.
How is Goldbelt processing applications?
The CARES Act Team processes applications in the order in which they were received. They review each application to ensure that every shareholder completed the form successfully. If they notice a shareholder skipped a step, they will call to verify or request any missing information. Please make sure to check all five certifications - it's the most common mistake that they encounter.
What’s the processing timeline?
We do not yet know what our processing timeline looks like. Goldbelt has only a week of data, and we’ve received applications from more than a third of shareholders. You can view the most accurate numbers at the top of this page to get an idea of where the team is currently. As the CARES Team hires more people and application submissions slow to a steady pace, we expect our timeline to shorten considerably.
Why is Goldbelt just now issuing CARES Act money?
Goldbelt just received the funds from the Federal Government. On Friday, August 6, Goldbelt received notification of $11.1 million in Federal ANCSA Tribal Relief CARES Act funds to provide relief efforts to its shareholders. This notification followed the Supreme Court’s landmark decision recognizing the role of Alaska Native Corporations as tribal entities on June 25. When CARES Act funds were initially distributed to Tribal Organizations in 2020, ANCSA corporations such as Goldbelt were not considered Tribal Organizations, so Goldbelt was not then eligible to receive funds. Goldbelt is pleased to finally offer this federal relief program to shareholders.
Will this money be taxed?
Goldbelt is currently waiting on guidance on the taxation for these funds. Goldbelt will inform shareholders as soon as we receive the answer from the Federal Government.
How long is the application?
The online application takes roughly five to ten minutes to complete.
When is the application deadline?
The application deadline is September 30, 2021.
